Ian McRitchie is known to most of our customers; after all, he is our Customer Relationship Manager. However, many may not know that he was diagnosed with cancer of the tonsils last year; thankfully, his treatment was successful, and he’s now back doing what he does best, looking after our customers.
Having gone through the treatment enabled Ian to appreciate the support he had around him from family, friends and colleagues. It also made him much more aware of the work done by Maggie’s Centres with those less fortunate than himself who don’t have a good support network.
Fortunately for Ian, he didn’t need to use their services, but he attended meetings at Maggie’s and got to see first-hand the invaluable work they do and the support they provide daily, enough so that he has decided to raise funds for them.
Ian is running the Edinburgh 10K on the 27th of May, and all the money he raises will go to Maggie’s Centres. He’s not entirely new to running; following the lockdown, he took to the streets to get fit and lose weight, but this time he is running with a purpose. We’re sure his pastimes of step aerobics and walking his two dogs will serve him well as he prepares to pound the capital’s streets later this month.
But these are not his only ways to unwind; Ian is an enthusiastic Lego model builder who has completed some fantastic pieces, the latest of which is a 12,000-piece model of the Titanic.
The management and staff at Excel wish Ian well as he takes on his latest titanic effort, and we have every confidence he will do us proud and complete the 10K course while raising a good sum of money for Maggie’s Centres. Ian has set up a JustGiving page, and his fundraising is underway; if you’d like to show your support for him and Maggie’s, you can donate here.
