As we predicted, reverse vending is the way forward…

We were delighted with the news last week that the Scottish government intends to introduce a Deposit Return Scheme for used cans and bottles.  This announcement comes as Nicola Sturgeon outlined the programme for government over the next 12 months.

Responsible disposal of waste has always been high on Excel’s agenda and earlier this year we installed a state-of-the-art reverse vending machine with 360 Degree scanning technology in our East Kilbride showroom.  These types of  machines will play a pivotal role in enabling the introduction of any Deposit Return Scheme and we are proud to be amongst those leading the fight against the growing problem of waste damaging our environment by investing in this technology.

The reverse vending machine is already attracting a great deal of attention and we were delighted to welcome the BBC to the showroom last week as part of their coverage about the need to introduce a nationwide Deposit Return Scheme.  Their report was aired on Reporting Scotland which also resulted in a great deal of Press coverage last week.  You can read the BBC’s article here.

What is a Deposit Return Scheme?

A Deposit Return Scheme is designed to encourage and incentivise consumers to deposit waste bottles and cans.  Similar schemes in other European countries have seen return rates of over 90% of plastic bottles and cans. The Deposit Return Scheme would mean that if you returned a plastic bottle or can to a Reverse Vending Machine, you would be issued a voucher for say 10 or 20p, which could be used against future purchases.

Alternatively instead of taking the Voucher you could choose to donate it to a chosen Charity, so you could help the environment and some local charities at the same time.

We have created the video below to explain how our reverse vending machine works and how it is important to the future success of any Deposit Return Scheme.

Once again, Excel Vending is delighted to be at the forefront of technology and the responsible disposal of waste bottles and cans.   We have an operating reverse vending machine on display in out showroom and we’d welcome the opportunity to demonstrate it to anyone interested in finding out more about the technology and how it addresses the growing concerns about the disposal of waste bottles and cans.   If you’d like to come and see our machine in operation and find out more about reverse vending, please give us a call on 0845 60 40 111, or email us at info@excel-vending.co.uk
