Toasting the past, celebrating the future – AVA celebrates a milestone anniversary…

The vending industry is a very high-tech, fast-moving and innovative space, however it often surprises people that vending is a long-established industry going all the way back to the 19th century.  The first coin operated vending machine in the UK was used in London in the early 1880’s to dispense greetings cards so  it should be little surprise to learn that the Automatic Vending Association (AVA) is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year.

Industry associations play an important part of the creation and development of any industry sector and AVA is a perfect example of an association that has encouraged a high level of professionalism and integrity that has allowed vending to flourish and grow into a major industry worth approximately £1.65 billion and employing 15,000 people throughout the UK.

To celebrate this impressive milestone, AVA are hosting a very special celebration on the 13th and 14th June at the Hilton Metropole in London.  This two-day extravaganza will include a glittering party to celebrate the achievements of AVA since its inception back in 1929.  However, it’s not all play.  AVA Live 2019 will also be a time to reflect on the last 90 years and look forward to the next 90 summed up nicely in the conference theme as, ‘Toasting the past, celebrating the future’.

The leadership symposium will feature VIP speakers including Alastair Campbell , Therese Coffey , Lord Deben, Carla Balakgie (to name a few)  technical workshops, business growth seminars and masterclass sessions designed to help all members meet the challenges ahead. Non members are also welcome to come along and join in the celebrations.

As members for almost 25 years, we are looking forward to joining our fellow members to learn, share, network and celebrate the vending industry and the success of AVA.  We have taken an active part in AVA during our long-standing membership; Excel Vending’s Managing Director, Jane MacDonald has been a Board member since 2017, a post that she is honoured to hold and one she takes very seriously.   John MacDonald, Technical Director at Excel Vending also sits on the Environmental Committee, a role he too takes very seriously.

AVA is a valuable association with some rich talent, experience and expertise; time spent at their events is always a rewarding experience. We are sure AVALIVE 2019 will be no different, although the scale of the celebrations planned for the 90th anniversary party may mean that some parts are not as memorable as others!
